Default 6.2 rod ??

What do I have to do to use a 6.2 rod in my stock ls1 block? I have to replace some pistons and was gonna go ahead and do forged pistons and rods with a stock crank. Is it possible to use 6.2s on the stock stroke and if so what pistons to use? Thanks

its definitely possible, you would just need a custom piston to be made

u would need like 1.229-1.235 compression height pistons.
a 6.25 con. rod, u would need 1.175 compression height pistons
depending how much block is decked and how much u need piston protudring from the bore o(ut the hole)

Yes it can, and is actually a very good idea to do so. A long rod combo like that will typically have a flatter/broader torque range over a shorter rod. The theory is piston dwell. With a longer rod, the piston will "dwell" at TDC for a longer period of time (relatively speaking) and produce more torque as the piston is "sitting" at TDC allowing it to build more compression.

And yes, you will need a custom piston. Take deck height: 9.240, stroke divided in half: 1.811 add your rod length 6.200 + 1.811= 8.011 then subtract that from your deck height 9.240-8.011 = 1.229 is compression height on piston.

Why do you want to use a 6.2" rod?

There is another theory that the "dwell time" will also give the air more time to stagnate between the exhaust and intake stroke (or overlap) possibly resulting in reversion.

I doubt its even worth the trouble.
