Default LS starter

Are the LS starters interchangable?

As I thought they were but a friend fitting a T-56 to a LS7 cant get it to fit.

Any idea??

I know that the Early Truck Blocks won't fit a Car Starter.. I found that one out the hard way..

The starters are different between the automatic and manual versions. Is he sure he has a manual (T56 equipped car) starter?

The starter is from the GMPP catalogue 10465385 and the engine is from a corvette.

i know the starter changes in f-body's from 99-2000 i think, there will be problems with alignment if interchanged. newer style has 2 long bolts and old has one long and one short.
