Default LS2 block bore size

I have a brand new 6.0L LS2 aluminum block and measured the bores last night.

The numbers ranged between 3.98... to 3.99.... inches. Is this typical of a new block? Is it expected that I do a final hone to 4.0 inches?

I was using a digital caliper which isn't great but I wanted a rough idea of the bore size.

they leave it a little tight, so that you have enuf material to hone in the pistons.

Default LS2 bore size

These blocks vary a bit on size. Some of the variation is probably due to the temperature of the block when you measure the bores.

I checked one last year when another member asked the same question. That block measured 4.002". I just checked another new block for you and this one measures 4.0005". The block I just measured is 65 degrees as checked by my heat gun. The one I checked last year was in the summer as I recall.
