Default ls4 to ls2 swap?

I have a 2006 gto that I am putting a 408 stroker with afr heads in a couple weeks and was wondering what I would have to do to put this block into my girlfriends 06 impala SS? The cars ls4 motor is based off the ls2 so is this possible or because it is fwd I will run it to problems.

I believe you will need a special bell housing to make this work.. Good luck.
Also not sure about the LS4 being based off of the LS2 motor? Again good luck.

both the stock short block and the 408 are built. I am just talking about swapping out the ls4 block for the ls2 block. I know I will have to use the ls6 heads that are already on the ls4 block just was wondering what other problems I would see.

yes it is based off the ls2. I found that info last week on this very site. Look at the vehicle specific section at the ls4 front drives.

That's cool I just wasn't real sure aboutt that one. The LS4 is a 5.3L 3.89 bore and the LS2 is a 6.0L and the 4.0 bore Thats why I said what I said.

You would probably have to call them to get it made. This just to get the rear drive motor to bolt up to the front drive tranny. You can also google what your looking for to get the results.. Hope this helps.

I have been searching for the past 2 months on what I could do with this ls4 motor and havent found much of anything being done to these motors. I will probably just sell my stock ls2 longblock and buy some nitrous for the girlfriends car. I only need thew car to be quick when I drive it.

The LS2 won't fit! The LS4 uses the 60* bellhousing pattern. Plus, the block is little shorter as well to fit 3mm at flywheel. The adapter won't work cause there isn't enough room for it to fit.

Also the trans won't handle much more power stock.

You could sleeve the block for 4'' bores and have a 6.0L. As far as stoker cranks. The cranks different as well, the crankshaft is shortened by 13 mm over vs a stock Gen III so a storker crank won't fit.
