Default LS3 vs 6.1L

here in the new future im gettin ready to pick up either a srt8 challenger (6speed) or a new camaro 2ss. Just seeing if anyone has any knowledge on the reliability of both motors with stock internals under boost. limits and such. more mod friendly. etc. i have read the ls3 has a cast crank while the srt8 has a forged. things like that would be helpful. thanks

the LS3 has an unlimited variety of aftermarket parts. the 6.1 hemi is a farely new motor, so their are fewer aftermarket parts out there. the "LS" motor family has proven itself as a durable, long lasting motor, that makes great power and responds well to performance upgrades. the ls3 would be great for boost due to the 6bolt main and strong pistons, rods, and crank. the ls3 is an all aluminum motor so it is light weight and can be hot lapped with no loss in power at full operating temp. the LS3 is a verison of the famous LS1 with more cubic inches and more years of engineering improvements. many ls1 motors last over 150k daily driven miles with no problems, and i would expect even better from the LS3. i have even seen guys that spray 150hp nitrous shot on "LS" motors with 150k miles on the clock. i am not putting down the 6.1 but i would definatly go with the LS3. my car has 80k HARD miles and over 100 dragstrip passes on the ls1 and runs great. i WOT my car up to 6800rpm at least 10 times everyday on my way to and from work. it has also been through several 10lb nos bottles and still runs like new. the ls3 is a great motor. i will be going with an LS3 block this year, when i build my 416ci stroker. good luck with your decision.

i would go with an ls3, and don't worry about the cast crank, many guys take that crank to over 800hp mark.

the 6.1 hemi is a great motor but not that many parts for it.

also i thought that they are going to update that motor, to 6.4 liters and 500hp. all the new chargers and challengers will have it.
