Default LS2 how good is it?

It's hard to improve on perfection, just how much better is the LS2?

It just has a .100" bigger bore, better heads, and slightly better camshaft.

90mm throttle too!
Intake is not as good though.
Plus compression is higher on the LS2 as well.

My 1998 WS6 with longtubes and ls6 intake and quick airfuel only tune, compared to my 2006 ls2 GTO with a quick 10 minute tune.

Larger (4.00") bore size, better camshaft, better heads (243 casting), more compression! There are several features that were improved on with the LS2.

I was reading a gm magazine and almost every FI car had an LS2. Not sure what it all takes for the LS2 to handle boost. Just forged pistons and maybe a different crank?

Well the LS6 intake is worth 5-10 and the headers are another 7-15hp, neither of which the LS2 doesnt have the advantage of.

I dont even know which one was which, but the blue/purple one was having valvetrain issues it looks like at about 5200+ RPM

Plus they probably werent done on the same day....You cant draw many conclusions other that the purple one was having issues at 5200....

Plus the LS2 can be bored to .030" over compared to the LS1 .005" over.

I'm running a production LS2 block, good internals, block filler (hardblok) and pinned the mains...making ~1600 hp

My 06 with a CAI, tune and full catted magnaflow exhaust put down 380/386. The same mods, minus cats on my 01 SS came out to be 352/356, just for reference.

The only thing that blows on the LS2 is the intake manifold itself. With some work, it can perform but even then, a 90mm on an LS6 intake will blow it away. As was already said, 243 heads, 01 LS6 camshaft, larger bore, etc. etc.
