Valve locks for L92's

I need some valve locks for my stock L92 valves. Will just a regular Ls1 valve lock work? Thanks fellas.

Yes, it will.

SweetS10V8 Jun 10, 2009 08:25 PM

yup, any LS lock will work

Any recomendations? Are they all created equal? Would something like this be sufficient? They seem to be genuine GM parts.

Wonder if they are the same as what the dealer carries.

Bump..............

as long as they are LS valve locks, they will work. If you want aftermarket, then prob the comp 623 or manley will work for you. I have all those on hand, both the GM and the comp and manley. For the most part, the L92 uses the same valvetrain (besides the valves of course) just like the rest of the LS heads. Some differences like steel caps for ti valves on the LS7 and a few diff spring types, but the locks are the same from the run of the mill LS heads

and they are actually the same as some other locks from the GM V6 engines and others as well.

Great thanks

Also do I need spring bases with the L92 seals?

Beau@SDPC Jun 12, 2009 12:29 PM

No, the stock valve stem seal is ALSO the seat.....tophat style. its all one piece

Do you know if these take a lot of shimming to come into spec? 1.800 is what my valve springs say to install at.

Beau@SDPC Jun 12, 2009 12:48 PM

that is normal LS installed height. they are all roughly the same thickness, but some shimming may be required to reach your installed height that you want. most of the time they will be very close though

Do you think I should just let it ride? The cam will be .573 lift

Beau@SDPC Jun 12, 2009 01:00 PM

i do not personally see a need to go about fine tuning the valve train as such to that extent for just a mild cam. but make sure you have better springs than stock/LS6...because that is right on the line of the LS6ers.

I picked up the pac 1218's

Beau@SDPC Jun 12, 2009 01:15 PM

if it were me, i would just put them on and let it ride

tennerv8 Jun 12, 2009 01:17 PM

Do i need to lapp the valves. Valves are brand new never used as are the heads.

Beau@SDPC Jun 12, 2009 01:18 PM

that is completely up to you on that deal. I do, but that is my personal approach

tennerv8 Jun 12, 2009 01:20 PM

What grit or grain do you use?
