Default Anyone in Ca running the 224R or 228R cam?

im thinking about jumpin up to the either the 224 or 228R and im wondering if it will pass smog.

or maybe doing a custom grind similar to my hotcam but with more lift. like 218/228 563/571 on a 112

any thoughts on HP with some LE2 heads?

thanks,
Jeremy

We have had quite a few customers run our 224R cam on a 114 LSA and pass emissions testing. I would not recommend it tighter than a 114 LSA, though. We keep our 224R in stock on a 112 and 114 LSA, so let us know if you need one! We also offer camshaft packages that will include the valve springs and pushrods starting at $589.99 + shipping!

Let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

We've also just finished up a new 224 camshaft that makes really awesome power compared to a lot of other camshafts out there. While I have talked to someone that passed with a 228R, I think the 224 duration is probably your best bet for CA emissions.

ive asked a few guys on my limited visits to the strip and nobody will tell me where they go that is "friendly". kinda weird cause they know who i am.

im just lucky that my camaro passes on its own even though its got some non CARB legal stuff that is unseen to the techie's eye.

that sounds cool. i was thinking about going with the bigger cam (i just installed my hotcam a couple months ago) when i do my heads.

i was thinking about having Loyd elliot do a stage 2 job on my heads and the springs that comes with will be way more than enough to handle any cam id want to do.

id just have to figure out which length PRs id need after i got it all together....

what HP are you guys seeing with a 224r cam only? just curious....

thanks for your help guys.

I've read that Loyd Elliot does good work. If you do that keep me up dated on your set up my bro is getting a LT1 thinking of having him get a Loyd Elliot set up. I talked to Jason at Texas Speed and he said that he was going to post about the new 224 today but he didnt he must of been busy.

now im wondering if the 220/220 on a 112 would pass smog. probably a good torque cam?

as for the heads, ill either end up doing lingenfelter, texas speed, or LE. leaning towards the LE though.

my brother in law bought a 95 lt1 camaro A4 for 900 bucks. so far hes got like 1200-1300 bucks in it and hes running 13.30s at 102. hes also thinking about doing the LE2 head and cam package.

$1650 for a head and cam package to get up to 410 rwhp aint bad on a LT1.

he doesnt advertise any HP estimates for his LS packages....

i was thinking too about doing a reverse split cam from you guys. something like 224/220 581/581 112 or maybe 228/224 588/581 on a 112lsa (xer lobes). honesly i just like the tighter lsa because they sound so good.

you think that would give some good torque?

are the XER lobes just a more aggressive ramp?

thanks,
Jeremy

You have SoCalSpeed in Shafter near you.
You might want to check them out.

i went with the 227/224 .569/.563 from Thunder Racing and will be installing it soon, it's on a 114LSA so it should pass. under 114LSA from what i've heard is very hard to pass and at that point it comes down to your tuner and how good they are

ya know, i bet it also depends on how they sniff the car. some areas require an idle test. that would be bad. i have to do a 15 and 25 mph sniff.

224/228 114 passed the CA sniffer with plenty of room to spare, I'm sure I've could of passed with a 228/232 115.

You're kidding. Did you have to tune and retune ?

Was your 224/228 114 a Comp grind ?

The reason I ask, is because I'm considering a larger Cam.

No retune, Comp Cam grind. I smogged just a few months after my Dyno tune.

so the 224 from tsp would pass then, what about running it through stock manifolds? curious as to what it would put down on a stock manifold car since i kind of want to stay legal for a bit.
