Default L92 on a 416...switch to a smaller cam?

416 CI (~12:1 compression)
L92 heads (unported, milled 0.030, Comp 921 springs)
Ported intake
full exhaust
94 octane

Present cam:
230 XFI / 242 XER, 114 LSA

- The setup above suffers from intake reversion.
- Low end feels clumsy.
- Not sure if it is the cams fault, but the exhaust reeks?

Would switching to a smaller cam be the way to go? I was heavily leaning towards a 228/232 114 LSA, until I came across a thread (on this forum) about a guy who had that exact cam (for his L92 setup) and how he duked it out forever with intake reversion, and that the cure was swapping to a smaller cam.

I would like to get rid of the intake reversion, improve low-speed city driving, and if possible, improve torque (peak HP not a concern for me).

Would something like 224 XFI / 230 XFI 114 LSA would be the way to go?

Any particular vendor(s) I could be calling to get this sorted out?

I run a 230/240 in my L92 headed 408 iron block with no driving issues or reversion issues. Switching to a smaller cam will help to get rid of the problem, but I would think tuning it would be a better way to go about it. I tune my own stuff and there are several things you can do to tame the cam down. In reality that cam is more of a mild cam. Do you have any good tuners near you?

It seems with the l92's the wider split is the way to go as in your 230/242. I have ran bigger cams in my l92,402ci,old cam was a 248/254 and ran great even down low. I now run a 236/244 and I did gain a little over the bigger cam. I am switching again to like a 238/250 114. I think if your exhaust reeks,I say it's in the tune. I do not think its your cam at all and a swap may gain some lowend but not a real big difference that would make it worth it. Check the tune.

Your current cam is properly sized for an L92 416. If the performance is not up to your standards, you should seek out a more capable tuner. That is a baby cam you have.
