Default 07 and up gen 4 5.3l

Isnt the 07 up 5.3l gen 4 engine block made for the cylinder on demand mumbo jumbo? If so, can this block be used without the on demand feature without alot of mods to accomplish. This is a new bare iron engine block so I dont have to worry about selling of the heads, etc.

I would like to use this as a replacement for my vortec in my truck. I would either bore to 5.3l or stroke it. What is the max this block will take in boring?

Just use the a upper valley cover off a GEN IV without DOD/AFM. Your also going to need to use a cam and front cover for the front mounted cam sensor.

I am pretty sure you can bore the 5.3's out to 5.7 specs, around a 3.90 bore

So there are no really big differences in the gen 3 and 4 blocks? The On demand difference is just in the ECM? Isnt there something different in the cam that keeps the dead cylinders valves closed?

You would need a non DOD cam and lifters. The proper valley cover will block off the towers in the valley area.

the main differences between the GEN I and GEN IV are:

DOD/AFM oil towers in valley area
Cam position sensor in front timing cover rather then rear of block
Knock sensors are located in the valley area on GEN I and outside the block by the motor mounts on GEN IV
2004+ blocks have equal length holes in block for head bolts or studs
and some other small differences like bracket bolt holes.
