i was recently given a motor, it was out of a 05 ssr i think, the block number is 12568952, so i looked and it would be a gen 3 6.0l ls2, the heads were a 243, so they would be a ls6, now the problem im having is that i dont know what the difference between gen 3 or gen4, it is a aluminum block and has 500 miles on it, it was a prototype ssr an was given to me for free, it ran and drove, but when i pulled off the pass side head, i found a crack, on the deck of the block in a water jacket hole going to the sleeve, now can i repair the crack by pulling the sleeve, or is the block junk. please help me, thanks...

If you could send me some pics of the damaged area I would be more than happy to look at it and see if we could fix it for you. A lot of times when we sleeve a block we remove some of that aluminum anyway. This may be the case here so chances are that it's not junk.
