Default Zero oil pressure pump failure?

I lost oil pressure this weekend , started getting valve train noise, started car Again and it had pressure, drove car one mile parked it, no noise and it had oil pressure. Restarted car again zero oil pressure and valvetrain noise again. This Is 402 ls2 been in car for 8000 miles. I changed the filter wondering if it was clogged and hooked an external oil pressure gauge to it, crank for just a second still has no oil pressure, could the pump have failed, the car was idleing when it lost pressure. I didn't hear anything break or pop

The pressure bypass valve was stuck open inside the pump, maybe this will help someone in the future.
