Dipstick problems

Dipstick problems I have an LS2 out of a 06 GTO. I got the engine from a salvage yard so I'm not sure if I received the correct dip stick tube and dipstick. The tube appears to be the correct height. I changed the oil and filter ( 6 qts---I think it should have been 5.5 qts ) and after running the engine, I checked the level on the dipstick, it is way above the full line. About 3" above the full mark. I wonder if I have the wrong dipstick. The part number on the dipstick is GM# 12551581. Anyone know if this is correct or not ? If not, what is the correct length I need ?

That's not the right stick or tube if it is 3" above. You did the right thing, fill it up with the correct amount (5.5?) run the motor a few minutes, check oil. It should be right on the money.
