Default LS1 swapping to a ls2 short block?

I have searched and cant find a cut and dry answer to what I have now.

I have a 2001 camaro with a ls1 in it, my motor is built up some but its the stock shortblock.. well I have access to a forged ls2 short block that id like to swap in my car.

I know my patriot heads and my lunati cam will swap over, same with ly ls6 intake and wiring and such, but what will i have to do or buy differently to make this block work in my car and my setup? is it a exact swap like an old 305 to a 350 would be, or is there actually differences that i need to addess if so what are they?

please ask me any questions you may need to know to give accurate responses. like i said i have searched and some say you need parts and others say its a simple swap. im confused so someone please clairify this for me.

thanks in advance. and to the mods I am sorry if this is not in the right place on the forum, it just seemed like the logical place to ask this.

I believe everything should swap over. What pistons do you have? FT or dish? Might want to check valve to piston clearance and check for proper pushrod length

I know you need a LS2 TC cover, valley cover and extensions for the cam position sensor and knock sensors. The LS2 cam position sensor may be different too but I can't remember for sure........ Other than that it is a direct swap.....

There are some sponsors that will sell it all as a package TSP being one.....

Also, I think the knock sensors are located differently. LS1's have them in the valley under the intake manifold. I think the LS2's have a boss on each side that you can drill and tap for the knock sensors, and then use an extension harness, which I think Katech sells.

Also, make sure you have a 24x reluctor on the crank, and not a 58x. If it's the 24x, you're good, if it's the 58x, you can take the engine apart and have the reluctor replaced, or I think Comp/FAST/etc sells a converter box.

Default Reluctor wheel

Some of the very early ls2's had 24X wheels, If it is a forged assembly (crank) it would be aftermarket and may be either a 24x or 52x wheel. Good luck.

this may be a stupid question, but can the LS2 intake manifold be put on an LS1 engine? I know the LS6 can with big gains, but what about the LS2? What alterations if any would need to be made and what gains will there be?
Thanks,
Dan
