Default LS3 Build Opinions Please

Hello everyone.

I am in the planning stages of an engine build and I'd like some opinions on what I should do within a specific budget ($10,000.00 including labor). I have a 2010 Camaro with the LS3. I'd like to utilize the LS3 heads, intake and ECM. In fact, I'd like to use as many components off the original engine as possible. That said, what I do want to change is the rotating assembly. The setup will be normally aspirated. My first preference would be a 427 but I am really not interested in the LS3 versions that utilize the stock bore and longer stroke. I would prefer the bore and stroke that the LS7 uses. That said, I would consider resleeving the LS3 if it doesn't blow my budget. If I can't resleeve within the budget can I go with an LS7 shortblock and an LS3 topend and ecm etc? I have seen at least one build on this site where a user built a 440 LS7 with an LS3 top end. I think he dropped it in an suv.....

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

You're probably going to go over budget utilizing ls7 stuff unless you do everything yourself.

Thanks for the reply.

I thought that might be the case. Pulling everything off of the LS3 and reconnecting it onto the LS7 felt like a reach.

Looks like a 418 then unless somebody thinks I can get to 427 with the bore I'm looking for.

I would go with a 416/418. That would be your best bet, and you still have all the head options you could desire with the bore.
