Bang for the buck upgrades on a basic 402?
I finished up my install of a TSP 402 and related components into my formula. There are still a ton of restrictions on the car (see below) and I'm wondering what the best PROVEN bang for the buck upgrades will be? Looking to squeeze another 30-40whp out of the car if possible. Car as it sits made a hair under 470whp.
The motor is a run of the mill forged TSP 402:
Diamond pistons, flat top with valve reliefs (10.8:1 static)
PRC CNC L92 heads
Comp cam 244/256 .612/.625 114LSA
stock L76 unported intake with LS3 injectors
Stock waterpump
ASP crank pulley
PTM 92mm TB
STOCK screened MAF
SLP lid
TSP 1 7/8 headers
TSP catted Y (3")
Hooker catback
T56 with ram HD clutch
Moser 9", all the suspension goods, etc
My first thoughts are to ditch the 3" catted y and go with a true dual setup? How big of a restriction are the stock MAF and SLP lid? I've been told the cam is not nearly ideal for this setup as well.
Thanks for your thoughts.
Keep them coming!
For the MAF you can save money if you get the LS7 MAF and flange - make your own spacer, some welding required.
Any reason you would suggest against SD tuning? I don't mind spending the money on a 100mm MAF if needed, but I've tuned other cars via SD with no issues?

Firstly though, true duals! My 408 picked up 28 rwhp going from an ARH Y and SLP dual dual to a custom true dual setup with an X-pipe. Those extra cubes will love you for letting them exhale easier.
As for the exhaust - WOW!! That is some impressive gains from the true duals on your car. I'm running a 3" TSP catted y and hooker catback at the moment, but If I could get even anywhere between 15-20whp from something like that I'd be elated.
I'll give the SD a shot being that I already have the new lid.

Pat G cam on the way, should have results in a few weeks. Last edited by bad94sup; Sep 18, 2010 at 04:52 PM.
Congrats on your new found power!

I did all the work myself, in my garage, and on a decent budget.
I'm currently parting it out, and just picked up a 99 Trans Am. That will be my new project for this winter.
I can't wait! I bet your gonna love the car just that much more, *with a more aggressive cam in there.
I'll be checking back to see the results.
