Question Is it possible to retrofit an L92 pressure relief valve to an LS7?

I want to put a GM HV pump (30% more flow) in my LS7, but I don't want to overwhelm it with too much pressure. Apparently GM put these valves in for just that purpose. Having never seen one of these in person...where does it go? And can it be retrofitted into an LS2/LS7 style block? (With a GTO oil pan)

Thanks,
-Mike

Yes I believe you could.
Pictured below is a late version of a Holden Front Sump (GTO Oil Pan).
Probably a modified version of the common pan, this one was used on 6.0 Holden L76 engines in early 2006.
Behind the bottom black allen head grub screw is a horizontal drilling which intersects with a vertical drilling below the relief valve.

Looking into it a bit further, your GTO oilpan does not have the casting material remaining for the lower relief valve gallery, you only have the 2x black screws on the side rear of your casting.

This front sump casting for Holden VZ 6.0 has the extra material to house the gallery from lower black screw to the oil relief......and still has the 2 oil extension pipes to the front for the filter.

Want to know your biggest problem? That valve costs $250. It ONLY comes in an oil pan, so you have to buy a new pan to get it. I had one damaged in a customers vehicle because of a broken rod. Pan was fine. Valve was damaged. Not sold separately, and nowhere was one to be found.

Excellent information guys! The photos really make it easy to see where this fits. Thank you.

So it appears that the only easy way to get that valve for my application would be to get an L76 pan from down under.

I would try the HV pump without it, but I'm told that will make my low mounted APS turbos leak oil through the seals.

Thanks again!

That last pic I posted is a 2006 L76 engine I have sitting here, I'll get numbers off it and tell you the parts availability situation in the next couple of days if you like.
It's not the same pan as on any L76 you'd find in USA.

When I bought the retro LSX pan for my L92, I had to drill and tap it. You have to check to see if the pan works on an LS7.

Use a 1/4" pipe tap. The drilling should be done on a machine since the hole must be the exact depth and location to intersect with the oil tubes. Too deep and it goes through the pan into the filter. Off center too much and you won't intersect the oil tubes.

The top hole is the pressure relief.

Yes please. Thank you.

I do require the pan which fits the GTO, which appears to be the one you have pictured.

Im doing an F-body oil pan swap onto an L92 and retaining VVT so should I swap this pressure release valve over? i have machine shop access so its not a problem but this is the first I've read that this was necessary. Any info would be most appreciated
