Default LS swap question-coolant crossover

Noob here in search of some advice. I am helping a friend install a 6.0 into a '64 Chevy II. My question is this. On the coolant crossover tube on the front, is it necessary to plumb back to the radiator? Can we just drill and tap the tstat housing and plumb it back to there?

Thanks, Brian

Not sure about the thermostat housing, but you can drill and tap the top of the water pump. I have hooked them there before without any problems.

Thanks. That is actually what I meant to say. Drilling and tapping a hole in the w/p just above the tstat housing.

The SA Design Book "How to swap an LS engine into almost anything" also says to plumb it into the top of the waterpump (near the outlet)

I drilled and tapped the rear of the water pump behind the upper radiator hose. Seems to work ok for me.
