Default Nitrous on a 408 LS2?

I am in the planning stages of a new 4XX cu in motor build for this winter and I want it to be built for nitrous. My max shot I would be spraying would probably be a 300-350 shot but my question is about build the bottom end of the motor for the spray. I have been doing some research and about the only thing I can really find is where people say to run a steel top ring in the pistons instead of a plasma moly ring because the steel ring will hold up to the heat much better. Is this true and what other things can be done to the bottom end to help provide durability to a big nitrous shot? Also I can't decide if I want to go Iron or Aluminum for the block. I would love the light weight aluminum but some durability is a concern so I don't want something thats not going to last.

This motor will not be sprayed constantly, only when going to the track, but it will see street duty on the weekends. Any advice on the way to build this motor right the first time would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Tyler

i think the most you can get out od the ls2 is 402ci, and if your gonna sparay a 300-350 shot, i would say you would have no other option than goin with the iron block. no way in hell would i run that much nos thru an aluminum block

I am pretty sure you can do a 408. Its just a 402 with a 4.030 bore instead of the 4.0 bore of a 402.

If you plan 300+ on nitrous, you should really get only top quality pieces in the bottom end. Nitrous is harder on an engine than FI - torque increase is kind of instant and this is tough on components.

I'd agree with above guy and look at an iron block. If you want aluminum, might want to consider a sleeved block. ERL's Superdeck looks to have a ton of features and price is pretty good considering all the work included.

Our ERL Superdeck I is designed for specifically for applications such as this. We have many guys running nitrous setups and are holding up just fine. The strength of our ductile iron sleeves and our Superdeck I system insures greater strength than an iron block but is much lighter. With our Superdeck I sleeving you have the option between staying with the factory 4 bolt option or adding our 6 bolt option as well. Doweled billet main caps and ARP main studs come standard with all our Superdeck I sleeving and we also offer the following options as well:
- 1/2 inch ARP head studs
- Full 5 point main girdle
- Double Oringing
- Bronze lifter bushings
