Default Another rod question?

I can buy a set of high end billet rods for cheap cheap.The catch is the big ends are .010 narrower.What is the down side of to much rod side play?I am building a street motor with a long life in mind.6,500 RPM max.Pay or stay away??? thanks.These rods are $1,500 rods for $400

You will move more oil through the rod bearings...not necessarily a bad thing. Make sure you have good oil pump with maybe an extra 10 psi. I have been running a 403 with larger than spec side clearance and it has been fine.

You will need to make them piston guided rods. You will need either a custom piston or make aluminum bushings to place on the pins to keep the rods from sliding side to side as the clearance will be to large.

This is a sprint car/circle track trick that is hardly done on the street or strip, but typically they will take even more meat off the big end sides as it is a weight reduction mod.

Contact Bill Hendren from Hendrens Racing engines in NC and he will tell you about piston guided rods, he does them on some of his engines.

The big end face is narrowed,I am going with something else.The rods were overkill but the price was right.I can buy a set of compstars for the same price.Thank you for taking the time to answer.

.010 narrower than what? Narrower than stock or narrower than those rods came? Most aftermarket rods will give you more side play than stock anyway.

.010 thinner than a factory spec rod.I already bought a set of C.E pro lights with A.R.P.2000 bolts(7/16)Fully C.N.C'd for around 475 bucks.4340 steel and good to 900 H.P.No where near where I will be.Thanks to all.I look at all avenues,you never know what you will learn!
