New to LS world... Not that I'm going to do a cam swap anytime soon but, I have read articles in Hot Rod about just spinning the cam will "lock" the lifters into their retainers so you don't need to remove the heads when doing a cam swap.
Is this true??? A noob thanks you...

It seats them in the lifter tray (retainers are a valvespring part) but they can still possibly drop and then you will be pulling your oil pan and head(s). You can fit a 3/8 dowel rod or fuel line where the JPR tool is shown in this link and and hold the lifters up. Most don't recommend the "Russian Roulette" method especially since this is so cheap and easy.

DOOONNTT risk it,, One dropped lifter will ruin your whole experience.. There are couple options on stopping this from happening.. One is using 16 expandable magnets, and there is the dowel rod, but dont take the chance, one cam wiggle can cause one to fall, then you will be hating life.

the above mentioned articles work well. The dowels are easy and very inexpensive. Do..........not......risk.........it.......save yourslf alot of anger and frustration. Preparation/planning/procedure.......good luck with your project.
