LS2 oil pump question/dilemma

Default LS2 oil pump question/dilemma

I am almost finished getting everything together for a cam swap and feel a little stuck regarding the oil pump. I read so many different options that I just wanted to pick the brains of the people on here that have been through this already and can share there experience.

just get a new o-ring.

shim my stocker for a little higher pressure.

purchase a new high flow pump. (if so which one has the best track record)

My search did not come up with any easy to find data, this might help someone else down the road or in the same situation.

I like the Melling 10296 pump. Better casting and more volume than stock.

Ditto on the Melling 10296 high volume pump - it comes with two springs that lets you choose standard pressure or high pressure (stock +10%).

There is more to it than just extra volume. Alot of problems come with getting the oil to and out of the pump.

I have the $350 deal and it is a very nice piecs. Dads daily driver has the $105 version. Has a few things done to help

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I will be running a single row chain so it sounds like the Melling would be a good choice, does anyone know if I use the standard spring will it have a little higher pressure than the stock pump?

I am not sure because I don't recall my readings with the stock pump. With the Melling 10296 standard spring in my LS6, once it is warm I get 40-45-psi at idle, 55-60 at cruise and 65-70 at WOT. The readings when cold are, of course, a somewhat higher.

that is pretty interesting, when my car is warm I am around 27 psi at idle.
