Aw hell cathedral ports dont make power
You need square port heads on there to ever go fast
Everybody knows that

Cool car and sounds like a fun daily driver for sure

Yea this site fooled me into that way of thinking over the summer. Don't get me wrong, the LS3 heads make good power for 700$ but I can't wait to get my hands on a set of AFR 230's or TFS 235's.. Can't decide.

Haha yea there are both crowds out there. Just saying for my application, and for a daily driven truck, the cathedral ports are a better match imo. This thread isn't for this discussion.

I'm just wondering if the OP likes the feel of the cathedrals through the whole rpm range better than the LS3s.

No worries Kevin, you know I'm your biggest fan! You inspired me to do the WCCH LS3/L92 thing years ago. I was awarded with 1300hp and 8 second timeslips on factory castings broke new ground for us. Also showed their weakness with thin decks and a broken heart with lifted heads every time the boost was nudged past 14 psi.
These particular TEA stage 2 LS3 heads would be great on a bigger cubed combo. You are talking about 280cc intake runners!
I definitely have improved seat of the pants up top. Dont feel like I gave up anything anywhere. I will post up overlay graphs on Monday so we can see the difference on paper. I was in such a hurry on Friday to drive the thing, I didin't even look much at the dyno.
Traction with the 275 Invo's is quite limited through third gear.

Wow, nice car, I love those CTS-V's and nice results!

It's very cool to see someone work that hard to test stuff and see what happens, kudos man.

It's all good. It just gets old hearing people spout "facts" who don't know WTF they're talking about.

1300HP with the turbo build is sick. Not really surprised you pushed water at that boost with a lot of RPM.

The CTS is going to have a lot of people looking around at stop lights trying to figure out where that noise is coming from...

Specing a good cam for the LS3 heads isn't all that easy. Some peeps get the wrong cam and give up on them, only to go cathedral.
Look at WKMCD 's combo.

Can't pin the gain on the cathedrals vs square port. not when you change cam, heads, intake, CAI, etc. I don't know, but I'm going to go out on a limb and ASSume the new cam is quite a bit bigger.

true. a variance in degree in the wrong direction on a square port head cam make performance suffer. who cares now, it makes 518 rwhp.

Look at WKMCD 's combo.
The LS3 custom cam was specced by a highly respectable person who has a handle on the square port stuff. That particular grind has been proven with stock LS3 heads, and another vendors cnc LS3 heads, the big variable is my TEA LS3 heads. Different porter=different port. I am 100% confident the LS3 heads would have rocked the house on a 427 or larger engine.Just too big a port for my little 402 combo.
The new cam is bigger, but I firmly believe, if sticking with my old top end and putting in a bigger cam, would have netted maybe 10hp up top.
Overall I am happy with the experiment, and am enjoying the new increase in power.
