LS2 shortblock: ported 5.3 heads or ported LS3 heads?

we had a customer come in to the dealership a few weeks ago that has a new ss. i was on vacation but a co worker overheard him say it had mast ls3 heads and one of their cams, bbk long tubes, stock cat back and made 460 whp and 420 foot pounds on the same mustang dyno that my car was tuned on. i happen to have 5.3 prc heads on mine and it made 474/435. not the same lower end but same idea.

Your car is the Epitome of why I made my opinion known. Thank you for sharing your combo as with the 5.3 heads you are doing them right with your set-up.

thanks. i guess either package can made to run hard. guess it comes down to what you might allready have or willing to spend on new stuff. i had 5.3 heads and got a 6.2 for a steal and had all my old ls1 top end stuff, so i just swapped it all over.

edit 6.2 short block only

I'm gonna call bs on the MAST heads comment. Those two heads are totally different, it's like comparing 243's with TFS 215's. We all know with a properly spec'd cam and valvetrain the TFS will always come on top.

If he did then he must have a POS cam and valvetrain and intake. Just my .02

Agreeing with you. If the numbers on that ss were correct, then he really messed up on the cam selection.

I also will agree as we all know that Mast makes some good stuff, expensive, but good.
I'd like to know the combo as well that went into the mast headed car.

It's probably on a stock cam, stock exhaust manifolds and intake lol!

Yup thats it. When I see the guy around again i will ask. Like i said i heard this second hand and he left the dyno sheet with the service writers. I found it hard to believe as well im not heard to bash mast trust me. When i find out ill let ya know.

Wow he is leaving a lot of power on the table with that set-up. He must of felt tapped out after the Mast heads and said screw the valvetrain
