Single Rollmaster Timing Chain, do I need to use a damper?

Default Single Rollmaster Timing Chain, do I need to use a damper?

Ok I have a 2005 GTO with an LS2 i'm about to do a cam swap on. I have on hand a "Rollmaster LS2 3-bolt 24X Billet Single Row, Roller Timing Set". I just heard the LS2s have a damper. Do I need to use this with this chain setup or leave it out? If I need to use it, does it need to be replaced with new?

I've searched and searched, googled, you name it. All I could find is info on double rollers not a single like i have! I'm stuck on this one, can someone lead me in the right direction? Thanks!

It wont hurt you to have one (reuse the stock one if its ok). I dont believe its a must though.

Default Use the damper...

I went from double to single timing chain so i can use the damper, cause with out it it will make a lot of noise, which is one among other good reasons, it is there.. another big reason, will prevent chain premature stretch..

Get the new tensioners that GM uses in their current LS3/9 etc.

Thanks for the help everyone.

After doing some research and talking to Ed Curtis I decided to go with the fixed style damper that comes stock on the LS2. Heard of several failures on LS3 setups and many were going back to the old setup with bigger cams on those platforms. New Era posted some good info on this as well. With that said, i'll be running my Rollmaster with a new stock damper. We'll see how that goes I guess. Either way, some sort of damper will be better in the end than none at all.
