Default Piston Q...

Right now, I have a NIB set of 59 cc Patriot stage 3 LS6 heads stockpiled for my next build, which will be a 416" (4.070 bore L-92 block x 4.00 stroke). To get a decent CR (11.15), I'll prolly go with 15cc dished pistons. ASSuming the valve angles (15°) stay the same, how will these pistons play out later if I end up swapping to an LS3 style head? Is the only difference in the valve reliefs?

A lot depends on what duration and intake centerline cam you run, IMHO. Eric L

So it is "all about the valve reliefs"? I'll be able to clearance the piston tops before assembly. If needed, should I just go ahead and use a 2.25" cutter instead of a 2.1"?

Seeing how you will be using aftermarket pistons, I would suggest buying pistons with the L92 valve reliefs if you think you will be switching heads. Eric L

One of two piston brands come precut for the L92 valves, but I can't remember if it's Diamond or Mahle. If you'll call TSP and talk to them, they can tell you which one it is. It might even be on their site somewhere already. When you start the new build, just make sure you get that brand of piston and you should be good to go.

edit, found the info on their site. Here is a copy/paste from there. "Diamond Racing's L92 forged piston sets are built for customers that want to have the ability to run an L92/LS3 cylinder head setup!".

Thanks, I'll prolly get a complete balanced assembly from them when the time comes.

Wiseco makes L92 pistons also. Its what I'm using in my build. My compression is 11.4 and and thats with 70cc chambers and a -3 cc L92 piston.

I'm pretty sure Wiseco has a "multi-fit" valve relief to use with either style of cylinder head.

Yes their "uni relief" is quite nice.

Yes, Wiseco pistons will fit both those heads no issues.
