machine work ? LQ9/LS3 build
Couple questions i need help with. first off, do you have to clearence a LQ9 block to fit a 4'' stroke crank? Second, if so any ideas on the machine shop bill for throwing a 402 or 408 rotating assembly at my LQ9. might end up just boring and throwing a set of forged flat tops at it for N2O if stroker is out of my budget. Last thing, Need a good machine shop in the DFW area. Thanks
My LQ block did not need any clearancing nor did the #8 piston (to clear the reluctor). Just needed to space out the windage tray with three washers and tweak the pickup tube to get back to ~1/4" clearance from the bottom of the pan (LS2 pan).
Just hone the block and you are good to go for a 402 ci with a 4.002 bore + 4.000 stroke. This should cost more than like $50 from a really expensive shop. I do my own so Im not sure what the going rate is...or are you asking for the whole assem. cost?
Well my LQ9 only has about 20k on it, but it sat for awhile and the front cylinders got some rust in them. i disassembled it and ran a ball hone through them but they still look kinda rough. So im gonna take it to get punched out. If i take a deep breathe first i can probably swing a rotating assembly, but i cant afford to pay an outrageous machine shop bill for clearencing and etc... Might just stick with small cubes and N2O.
