Default Aluminum 'Press In Sleeve' block warning

This is to make the forum aware of an issue present with Press In sleeves as used in re-sleeved LS2,7, Warhawk and RHS engine blocks.

The use of an improvised cylinder ring (that uses no machined receiver grove) or a gas expandable ring as used by some head gasket companies can cause unwarranted effects to the 'press in' cylinder sleeves causing them to be pressed into the block and below the deck surface, potentially damaging the seating surface for the sleeves.

Traditional O ring with a receiver grove using a copper or graphite gasket has proven to be satisfactory, provided the depths of the groves are done properly.

Can you elaborate on this? I am currently running the Darton Dryliner in a LS7 block without any issues so far. I have rebuilt this block several times using various head gaskets ie. GM and Cometic. I have heard of some issues so i am all ears!?

You're not using Cometic Phuzion head gaskets or any kind of O ring? So i'd say you have nothing to worry about in regards to this.

Not recommended, however you're free to do as you like. I wouldn't be surprised if a copper O ring was ok.

Any foreseen issue with an o-ring in the block that backs up a Felpro mls gaskets' fire ring?

you mean the fire ring in the gasket? Or are you using an O ring with an MLS gasket?

That could be an issue.

I really don't see the point of any kind of O ring (copper or steel) with an MLS gasket.

MLS gaskets have a fire ring.

The block was purchased that way. It originally was going to used with a copper HG. Was told it could be used with an MLS as well. What issue do you see?

MLS can work with copper O ring, not steel. The head gasket will not give and no receiver grove, the ring will press the sleeve into the block, potentially. Specially if you're stacking a ring on top of a firing ring in a gasket.

You could I suppose torque plate hone the block with the ring and gasket installed, good luck with that.
