i am not going to use the 1.8, will be using crane 1.7,alredy have the ls7 lifters, just looking for advice on springs without changing retainers if i can.

The problem is not so much the weight of the rockers even though the crane rockers are heavy. Its that your using the 1.8 rocker on a cam that is already has a fast lobe ramp it simply opens the valve faster than your springs can control the valve train. You should put the 1.7 rockers on and new set of springs and go play.

Even with the 1.7 rockers, it's still a very heavy rocker and it's going to wear on even the best springs quickly.

will the pac-1521 go wright into place of my dual gold with the same retainers?

The pac 1521 outer spring has the same dimension as your Patriot Retainer and the inner step on the Patriot retainer is smaller than the pac inner spring is. It will locate of the outer spring and run fine. Its just a tight fit. With your cam and a 1.7 rocker you should have .613 lift I would install these spring at 1.770 instead of the 1.800 the spring will you have better seat pressure and push the spring closer to its coil bind. This reduces harmonics in your valve train. It will also give you the control you need and help the life of the spring. You will need to also purchase .030 shims to achieve the 1.770 install height
