Default Main Bolts or ARP Main Studs

Ok i'm in the process of ordering parts piece by piece for my forged LS2. I was wondering if installing ARP Main Studs is a must for my build. Its between going and buying a set of new main bolts or ARP studs. This is going be a full street car with a big shot of nitrous. It will rarely see the track but will be beaten on when its on the street. I would like to spray a 200-250 shot through a standalone. So would it be a must put ARP's in there? Thanks

Ross

I would do studs. The price between bolts and studs in negligible when it comes to your bottom end.

A progressive controller would help, but if your hitting it all at once, stud it.

A lot of things aren't necessary, but we do them anyways.

^Exactly. Like his 200-250 shot of nitrous isn't necessary, but he's going to do it anyway.

I have them AND head studs on my N/A 408 @ 11.5:1 comp, just for extra insurance. Paid full price for the main studs, and got the head studs for a banging deal about 4-ish years ago...like 90.00for a full set type deal.

These rocker stands arent necessary in my garage either. They should be in your motor. Still waiting for shipping info lol.

correct, but OP asked if it was a "must" to have ARP main studs at that power level which Ill guess at 700hp..

The answer is no, I have countless emails from Jim @ Speedinc, Ryne @ CMS motorsports and it really isnt an issue at that power level... So says the pro's!!

Power level alone does not determine the need for studs/bolts over stock bolts. 700 n/a...you might be ok, the same power on a 250 shot is going to push the stock stuff to it's limits.

Why even take the chance? I built my n/a 370 with studs. It was already apart so why not?

Don't forget to consider the cost of a line hone when you put in main studs. May not be needed, but often is.

I plan on a 300 hit for the 370 i just built... I didn't go with arp on the mains. If i went fi i would have.. I wouldn't worry about it until 950+rwhp.
