Help identifying a LS2 engine squeal or bearing howl.
2006 GTO LS2, running a Tremec TKO 500
Doing a swap into a chevelle. Fired up several times after removing VATS and a howl started. Figured it was nothing and it got worse and was not directly related to any certain thing.
The noise (squeal/howl is not constant), when cold not present generally. When warm it usually shows up but not always. Seems to be intermittent.
Pulled the AC and Drive Serpentine Belts and it was Still Present
Someone said to pull the PVC hose. after that, the squeal was still present.
Pushing in the clutch seems to make is lessen but sometimes is still present.
Ended up pulling the trans and rechecking runout on the bellhousing. Sent the numbers to Keisler, triple checked and it was installed correctly. I did have the pilot bushing in backwards.
Started the engine with no, clutch, pressure plate or transmission. Let the engine warm up to operating temp. I though I had found the issue (reversed pilot bushing).
Then I rev the engine slowly to the 800RPM range and start getting a slight howl/squeal and I go between 800-1500RPMs and hover to try to expose the sound at different RPMs. It got a bit louder but not as loud as when the clutch and bell and transmission was installed.
The Squeal/howl seems about 40% as loud as when the transmission was installed but the noise is still present. It sounds like the noise is coming from the bottom end of the engine but anything is possible at this point.
Any ideas?
Trying to figure out if to overhaul engine, buy a new crate engine or what to do. The engine does have the 24 reluctor wheel.

Double checked everything external before pulling the engine.
Pulled the clutch and pressure plate
Removed Bellhousing
Removed Belts
Made sure the start gear was not staying engaged
Made sure the flywheel was not touching or rubbing anywhere.
I Just got done taking it apart tonight and found no damage to any major component inside. That is the good news. The bad news is I am not really sure exactly where the problem is.
I pulled the oil pump apart and see some wearing on the sides of the case. It makes me think that since the squeal seemed to be crank related that is where the problem lies.
What are your thoughts. Anyone else with a squealing oil pump?
