All things being equal...
All things being equal... For my current project (truck) I'm going to go with an LS based engine. My question is, if I'm going to stroke it anyway, what is the better platform, all things being equal? (IE top end)... a 408 Lq4 (Iron block) or a 418 L92 (Aluminum block).
I'm building for torque, below 5000RPM, in a 4x4 application, which makes me lean towards the lq4 (Iron), there is also an upfront cost difference between the two blocks. I like the idea of the weight savings and heat dissipation with the AL, but from the extensive reading I've done the Iron is a bit better for long term in this kind of setup.

Block construction will have no bearing on torque production or powerband. Cam/heads/intake will have the greatest effect on powerband and torque production. Unless you get into boost or spray either of the blocks should be plenty durable for any reasonable application. GM uses aluminum blocks in trucks and warranties them for 100K.
