Ls2 no oil pressure
Getting frustrated and im out of ideas, the engine is a stock ls2 that has been rebuilt all new bearings, rings and oil pump. I have tried priming the engine and i still have no oil to the top of the engine or any oil pressure. Ive rebuilt a few ls engines and have never had this issue.
I know that the barbell restrictor is in, as well as the bypass plug next to the oil pump. The oil pickup tube and o-ring are in too. Im tempted to order the priming tool that melling sells and see if this will work. Really starting to think that the oil pump pressure relief valve is hanging up.
Anybody ever have a similar problem or any ideas? Thanks, in advance

This is why cranking the engine over is not a good way of priming the engine.
Pressure lube is the only way to go.
For the bypass to hang open it would have to have more pressure than the spring is rated for and without the engine running this is not going to happen.
You don't need a melling tool just a cheap accumulator that you car fill with oil and put air pressure to it to push the oil in the engine.

trying to prime it with the starter will not build pressure. When it was built, they should have thoroughly coated all the bearings, rings, valvetrain, etc with oil and/or assembly lube. That protection should be fine for a few seconds of running the engine. Start it and give it a few RPM, and then see how the pressure does.

That's very quick! We've watched for minutes at a time with the starter turning it over and see nothing....we even get calls daily where they are started/running and don't get oil to the top end to read on the gauge for 3+ minutes!
