Default What is this?

Lq4 motor

Has a greased almost mud texture to it. Grey in color and its obviously metal bits but anyone seen this before? It's like never seez. Also the oil has a small hint of fuel and the oil pressure is in the 20's most of the time.

Whatever it is, its magnetic. So it's not the bearings or the pistons.

You say that it can't be the pistons right? What about the rings? How else could fuel get into the oil? Would it not have to seep past the rings in order to make it to the pan?

The engine has never been "built" and I've never seen this on previous oil changes. Why would it show up now?

Could be the oil pump chewing itself up.

Why could it not be the bearings? What are the Lq4 Bearings made of?

They're made of aluminum and copper which are both non magnetic. the oil plug is magnetic and that's why you have that on the plug. I have seen that before on engines and that people have not maintained and the oil doesn't get to where it needs to be on start up becaues of clogged oil passages and friction of metals causes what you see.

I also have a little bit of stuff on my magnetic drain plug every oil change, doesn't look as crazy as that but it's there.

So what part(s) of the engine are made out of magnetic parts? The crank is iron, the rods are metal, the liners are iron?

I'm aware of the plug being magnatized.. The car sat for awhile and was neglected before I had my hands on it. I will be doing a much better job of maintaining it than the previous owner. Is there anyway to safely flush the oil valleys out?

You can get some of that engine flush stuff or what I have seen work well is Marvel mystery oil. Put in half a quart every oil change and it does a good job of keeping things clean and cleaning things out.

Still though the only true way to go thru everything is to do a tear down of the engine.

Could be camshaft material if a lifter/lobe is wiped. Have you cut open a freshly changed oil filter?

The gear inside the oil pump?? Timing gears/teeth? You said it sat for a while. How long's a while? The oil was at the appropriate level before start up?

I would get a $25 oil analysis, that will tell you exactly what is going on. specific wear metals, amount of combustion byproducts (blow by), fuel dilution, etc.
