Default Flexplate issues ??? help please

Im running a LQ4 in an older chevy with a powerglide,,Ive put 2 different hughes flexplates in already,,1st one had the wrong bolt pattern to match the converter (# HP4004X) the 2nd one I have in now, fits the convertor but Ive got issues with the stock starter going in,,no matter were I shim it (which I have to cause it hits the starter drive ) It makes a horrible noise when engaging, and wont kick out till I rev it around 1500 rpm . Ive got about .200 of shim in it now..part # HP4004X-EBP. Has anyone come across this problem, or have any ideas ???

Go back to the first flex plate and use a dremel tool on the convertor bolt holes so they match. Thousands of people have done it that way and it doesn't hurt a thing.
