427 big block to LS7?

427 big block to LS7? This may sound stupid but my buddy found an old 427 big block out of a truck and was talking about swapping ls7 internals into it and making an ls7 out of it. At first I thought that it was just the dumbest idea ever but the more I thought about it the only difference I could think of is the block. Obviously you would have to swap the heads intake and the works. My questions is if this would work and if so would it be a big factor having a iron block over aluminum like the ls7 has? Would you lose a lot of performance with the heavier block? And lastly would it even be worth it to do this? And thanks in advance.

I put a post up yesterday but deleted it :Tall deck BB will need spacers for intake and you will need a longer rod also.Most racers don't like to use the taller truck block.Guy a while back tried to sell my uncle 1=BB we checked the #'s on the block and ....Truck block we passed on it.They are a little more beefy than passenger BB.I hope you and your friend did KNOW this...3 BBC 496,514 ford,screamer 289,351w in use for track Maverick,my old 383,now we are doing a Pontiac 455 he's had since the 70's.
Cube for cube, a big block with modern cylinder heads will make more power, all day, every day. LS is great for what it is, lightweight, compact, powerful, efficient and simple, but the physical size and architecture of the big block allows builders the freedom to do so much more.
427's were only used in passenger cars & the HD tall deck version in large trucks. They never installed a 427 in a pickup.
As for the tall deck truck, it is a beefy engine capable of being bored a minimum of .100 over & some to .125. This allows an easy path to large cubes.
All truck engines had steel cranks & 4 bolt mains.
They all have very small port heads for torque & never were meant to rev high.
As manufactured, these engines do not make a good performance engine, but rebuilt they have some great potential.
