Default New Car engine break in.

Hey, I'm new to LS engines. I ordered a 2014 Camaro SS with 1LE pack, should get it early next year. Just wondering what the best way to break it in is. I realize they do this at the factory, but just to be safe, change oil after first 1000kms? or what's a good course of action for the first 5000kms of the car/engines life.

thanks!

Pandora's box....The instructions that came with my GM LS engine was to give it a few RPM burst (1/4, 1/2 throttle), but after that it was keep it easy, do not red-line the engine and ensure you vary the engine RPMS (No road road trips on the freeway) for the first 500 miles.

You will get two different opinions on this, but I would do what ever the owners manual states.

Here's what you are going to hear on this one. Opinions are like ******** on this topic and everyone has one and a method they believe is best .

Me personally having been a mechanic my whole life I drive them real nice and easy and slow the the first 500 miles and stay under 55 and vary your speed no ******* it and no WOT runs and then change the oil.

Then drive her 60-65 as a max to about 1200 miles and you can get in it a little here and there but not for long.

After that drive it normal highway speeds fast as you want but try to minimize WOT runs till 2500-3K miles.

This is how I do them on my personal stuff and they dont use oil they have lots of power and no piston rattle as the miles rack up. New cars a huge investment so I prefer to not beat on them until they have a few miles then its game on.

We bought our 2010 SS new September of 09. we ran it hard from the get go (a few WOT pulls, but shut down before red line) with ZERO issues. of course we changed oil at 500 miles. after that, it was to the track it went with 600 miles on the car and it ran very well (12.90 @ 107 all stock down to the tire). the car now has about 87,000 miles on the clock and is very reliable without any noise what so ever. But as stated before, everyone's going to have a different opinion on what should be done.

Very similar here.

Our crate LS3 was installed and then car was driven straight onto the dyno and run in.
