I would have thought a billet rod like this would have been rated better!

I think they are being conservative like Callies to cover their back sides thats all! I have read many websites that used those rods with 14-1600whp builds no problems and i read the same about compstar and eagle H beam rods!

I would be more concerned about rpm than hp rating.

Look at a stock rod for example. People on here have proved time and time again that the stock rod can handle 6-7-800 hp and look at the rpm they were turning 65-6800 rpms, mostly turbo setups.

Take a stock rod and start turning some rpm with it and watch how fast it fails. Those entry level Eagle and Scat rods fail right behind those stockers.

IMO, You can't go wrong with a Callies, Carillo, or Oliver rod with a good rod bolt, and I can't express the notion enough of getting a good rod bolt. It helps even a stock rod live longer so it helps an aftermarket one by leaps and bounds.

Quick Reply: Oliver rod?
