Which 4.8/5.3 top go with? Hey everyone.... I've done quite a bit of searching and found nothing to answer my questions. I had an injector hang open on my Ls1 and it broke a rod, after further examination of the block there are a few cracks from where the rod hit to badf to try and fix, I bought a 130 K mile 4.8 from LKQ to replace this and needless to say the old LS1 was in better shape, between bent pushrods and probably more like 250K miles I'm back on the look for an JY type engine...
I have looked around locally and also ebay and it seems I can find a 00-04 4.8/5.3 with ~130-200K for 550.00 less and an 05-10 for 750-1000. I would prefer to stay with a 4.8 for my build but can't seem to find out if the GENIV 4.8's came with the better rods ( I know the 5.3 did) and if it is worth the extra cash to get it... there is a place local to me that has a 2010 4.8 with under 30K for 1000 or best offer which I would take and switch everything needed over to run my current cam etc. I may just end up going with a 06-07 5.3 but they seem to average 150K miles around the area and cost ~800
