Glad to see the cam came in smoothly! Looks great!

This cam is actually IMO fairly mild for a solid roller camshaft. Lash takes away a large amount of low lift duration. Consequently the majority of the overlap period in street/strip camshafts occurs at low lift.

The cam should drive excellently, but have a mean idle at the same time...just what Malachi wanted.

With how well the heads flow above .600" lift, this cam will be able to take advantage of every bit of that and really make some great power on the rollers. I expect a 6500-6700rpm power peak and for it to carry 7200-7400rpm.
Thanks Martin, I noticed you carry both Morel and Comp Cams Elite solid roller lifters, not familiar with the Morel 5425 but familiar with the elite race, which one would you say is best, and are the Morels 5425 lighter than the Elite, I must buy a set in another week or so for my new max effort solid roller cam stock block LS3, thanks kindly, David.

David,

I honestly do not know how much the Morel lifters weigh. I do not put much if any stock in weight on the push rod/lifter side of the valve train. It has little to no effect on valve train control.

I put all my efforts into making the push rod/cam/lifter side of the valve train as stiff and as rigid as possible thus transferring as much effective tappet motion to the valve.

I like to concentrate my efforts in weight savings over the valve itself as that is where it will pay off the most.

I really like Morel lifters and use them almost exclusively in all of our builds.

Heads, ported FAST 102mm and Crowers should be here early next week. All that is left to get are headers, pushrods, timing chain and lifters.

Heres' a few teaser shots of the head work FRH sent to me.

I'll get more pictures of everything once it all arrives.

Also, my custom plates came in. I think it'll fit the personality of the car perfectly, as well as describe my love of metal and punk music. A couple of tweaks and they'll be perfect.

After tweak :

Also thinking of adding the Misfits skull / Pantera logo in place of the star and Texas symbol

Until next time...

Invoice shows 350$ to machine the pedestals down for the Crowers, which actually had to be machined to a specific height based on my cam specs according to Crowers instructions.

Well, not much of an update, but after spending what seems like endless hours researching valvetrain geometry, talking to the people I got my parts from, I'm happy to say my valve train is setup! I get the best geometry angles and wipe pattern using one Crower supplied .045 shim for the rocker base.

Pushrods will come from Manton. Series 5 7/16 x .120 at 8.600 is what they'll be.

Got all my clutch measurements while everything is blown apart also. Everything is golden there as well. I completely disassembled the slave to thoroughly clean it as it been 40k miles with the stock fluid. Yuk. I'll be replacing that shitty little plastic bearing support with Monsters billet piece.

All I need now is to drill and tap the rear steam ports, get a couple gaskets and clearance the heads for the pushrods and it'll drop this bad boy in the car.

Shouldn't be too much longer now!

Na, I didn't consider it at all really cause I'm not at the point where I want to cut my hood up just yet.

Now to mention when and if I ever do decide to get an aluminum intake.....

Ugh, it'd be hard to make up my mind lol
Do I get a FRH ported Holley, a single plane?

Initially I'd like to run a single plane with a carb style tb, but no one makes dbw setup. I'd have to do like Ryan Stevens did and make a bracket and linkage for the dbw motor to the carb tb.

Decisions decisions.....

I've finished up all the small tasks finally. The motor is jus about ready to be dropped in. Only thing I need is cover gaskets, billet tob support and the C7R chain.

Clutch / slave measurements are good. Right at .100 or so. I also cleaned and flushed the 40k mile nasty fluid out of the master, slave and lines. This should help minimize any potential issues there.

Next was p/v. I have clearance for days there. It was somewhere .240+ for both. The piston only stick out .375 at bdc.

Clearanced the pushrod holes so I can run 7/16 columns from Manton. Pretty sure I'd have room for 1/2 rods, but that won't be necessary.
Here's some before and afters. Just have to tidy them up a little more.

Here's something I found very interesting. The rear steam ports on the LS7 heads are actually riveted closed. When I was getting ready to drill the port out I noticed they looked plugged up. Took a small punch to the under side of the head and knocked the plugs out. Drilled and tapped them for -4.

I figure no point in going solid roller with out making it as flex free and consistent as possible.

With such a long push rod, it's great to see that Malachi is using a 7/16" push rod. I have always been an advocate that as an engine builder or even just as an enthusiast, that you should always do whatever it takes to fit the biggest diameter push rod you possibly can fit in the push rod passage.
