Default LH6 DOD delete and cam swap, help needed

I am just starting my research for this project and the whole entire Internet points to you guys as the source for the 'knowledge'!

Long story short, I have a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer daily driver with the 5.3 LH6 with the garbage DOD system in place. The truck has already been to the dealer twice for $2K upper engine work (in my opinion due to the garbage DOD system). Well, a couple of weeks ago the engine started missing again so it's time for a third 'head' job.

Anyway, I'm sick of it. I picked up a cheap mini-van for the wife to drive while I do something about this TB. I want to pull off the heads, get them cleaned and fixed up and delete the garbage DOD system, swap the cam and upgrade what I can (time, money, and ability) while I'm in there.

So, I'm looking for some reading material on this project. I've done a lot of maintenance and repair work on all of my past vehicles but never a cam swap (although I did help my Dad rebuild a Chevy 350 V8 when I was a kid but that was ages ago). Can someone point me to a thread or five where I can read up on this type of project? A 'how-to' guide would be great.

I want to 'upgrade' this engine while I'm in there but nothing too dramatic. I'd like it to remain daily-driver-ready, if you know what I mean. I have questions like;

What cam should I look for?

Where to get these upgraded, performance parts?

What else would you recommend me considering while I've got the top of the motor apart?

So far, this thread link seems to be the most comprehensive description of what I'd need. Seems like a good list of parts needed for the swap.

Any other advice?

Thanks in advance!

I'm in process of doing the same on an 07 Silverado, not sure what your looking for as far as performance, if your wanting a little extra pwr but still drive daily, I'd recomend either an L33 or LS9 cam.
