Default Timing damper?

I have a LSX block with a JP billet Double 4X row chain set still wrapped up on the stand and i noticed it does not have the LS2 type damper installed or any type for that matter but i think there are mounting holes there for one are these needed with the billet double chains or no?

I just installed one on my lsx block with a rollmaster double roller. Haven't installed the engine in the car yet, so can't comment on that. But I have spun it over by had numerous times lol. The first few revolutions the chain was dragging on the teflon pretty good. But it has smoothed out a lot.

Did you use a GM damper or aftermarket?
