Default Balancing Question

If a set of pistons were changed out and the new ones were the same material and mfg and were 8 grams lighter would the crank have to be rebalanced?

IIRC, only way to really do it right is to balance the entire assembly..assembled.

It should be fine, but my local machine shop only charges $125 if all they have to do is drill some superficial holes. They charge more if they have to measure and calculate the bobweight and/or add heavy metal. For that price, I'd rebalance but some engine builders like a little overbalance for applications that are going to turn some considerable RPM. I'd say you could get away with 8 grams.

Since mine should just have to be drilled I'm assuming I'll spend the money and have it done. If I'm that deep what's a few more dollars.

IMO sleep at night is worth that..but much of the rest of the crowd on here is more experienced than I am. $125 or so seems like good money for piece of mind.

I am going to have it spun up and go from there.
