Default 853 ported vs 799 heads

So I have 2 sets of heads and am new to ls1 engines. 1st pair ported 853 2nd 799 stock heads. The application I'm using them for will be a forged 5.7 stock bore with a turbo and cam. So my question is what heads are better or pros and cons...

I'd lean towards the 853 heads. Depending on the piston, you may actually be able to use the larger chambers to your advantage since you're using a turbo.

799s better chamber & port design plus the chamber is a few CCs smaller, same as 243s.
You can't say that the 799s have better chamber and port design without seeing and knowing who ported the other heads. Many times, a good porter can transform and improve the design of the head to perform better than the factory cast.

So depending who ported the 853s, I personally would tend to lean to those. If it's a professional CNCer (TEA, AI, WCCH, Livernois, TSP etc.) then for sure as those are quality programs. If they were done by some random guy in his shed with a dremel I would steer away and go with the proven OEM design of the 799s.

853's came on stock LS1's, so yeah, they fit.

You must be thinking of 823's. Those are L92 style heads.
