Poor mans LS3 build so far.

Default Poor mans LS3 build so far.

I've sourced out an LQ4 block, should have that within a week . Reusing my stock crank, planning on using LS3 rods/pistons, 243's done by AI. LS6 manifold. I have 2 questions, what cam do you recommend, and after a safe tune. Would the. LS3 internals be good to mid 600's after a 150 shot?

Ls3 piston are 4.060 = maxed out lq4 bore.
Cam: refer to Martin@ Tick, Cam motion or Pat G.
It should hold up with a good tune.

Obviously, the stock internals weren't meant for 650whp with nitrous, but they have been able to withstand more than that. Gap the rings for the nitrous and make sure the bearings have adequate oil clearance and I'd think you'd be okay.

As for cam recommendations, just ask AI since they're doing your heads. That's basically what you're going to get as far a suggestions go if you don't even mention what car/trans/gearing/etc when asking.

I'm using a cam that's about 235° duration and about .600" lift with a pretty narrow LSA. I thought it felt pretty good with the 241 heads, but I've got 243's on now and haven't got it running just yet.

KCS are the factory rod bolts any good.

If you're doing a "poor man's LS3", then why not use L92 heads? .

I came in expecting l92's as well. Sounds like a fun build I hope it turns out good for you.

Meh. They don't seem much better than something you'd find in a hardware store, but they're ok I guess. I prefer to swap them out for ARP's though. I'm resizing the rods in my LS2 since I put the ARP 2000 bolts in.

.065" over LQ4 here with stock LS3 guts. If you're gonna use a crank that wasn't used in an LS3, you'll need to have the rotating assembly balanced. My engine is holding up great making 476/436 on motor, 554/574 on 100shot. I made 575/650 on 150 shot, but by the graph, the car wasn't responding well the bigger shot so I backed it off since the nitrous is just to play with. My motor is setup for a procharger and isn't meant to be on nitrous.
