junkyard 5.3 a good deal. my local junk yard has a 01 5.3 from a tahoe with 30 k on it for 400. I was wondering if this would be a good foundation to get 450to 500 ho for my 71 monte carlo. I am going to do a carb conversion i have been trying to find the pistons for this motor but cant seem to find anything out other then it makes 275 hp from the factory.
any suggestions on if this is a good deal and what i will need to make this kind of power.

450 at the crank is easy!! Car craft installed a 224 crane cam and got 440 horses using the FACTORY heads and TRUCK intake with headers and a tune......
plenty of ways to get another 10 hp out the motor. Intake swap, port the heads , get a better head, etc.
500 hp can be achieved if you installed a stroker crank and get a set of nice flowing heads.
