Default 0821 heads or Trickflow 255s

Looking at getting a set of heads for my 408 build. Which is going to be better the ls3 heads ported and polished stg1 job or the TrickFlows? Most port and polish jobs ive found are 1100-1400. Car is a track only car and going carb'd with nitrous.

Lots of variables here. More info is required and a huge recommendation to contact Tony Mamo. Best in the business and can guide you the correct direction. My 427 build I was also considering the same thing and Tony had some very smart advice regarding this decision.

Obviously the TFS 255s will better but for $1,000 more than a Stg 1 ported stock casting not much better IMO. The TFS flow#s are slightly better. At .600 lift the TFS flow 366 cfm vs 360 cfm for the TSP & GMPP Stg1 LS3s. I bought a set of the GMPPs for my LS3 build, getting it together now. With the BTR .660 springs I have $1400 into my set of heads, $1200 less than a set of TFS 255s.

For the $ lots of guys use a ported stock head. The PRC cnc ported stock heads are aggressively price & will make a good gain over a stock 821 head.

That beings said if your considering a aftermarket casting LS3 head then I believe the PRC 260 head is a no brainer! You get a full cnc ported aftermarket casting with 380+cfm capability & even a hollow stem valve upgrade free! Anyone familiar with aftermarket LS3 valves know they're very heavy. Just compare the weights on all the cylinder heads & I think you'll agree the PRC 260 is a killer option.

The PRC hollow stems help to solve the issue with valve train stability that lots of LS3 head guys are seeing.

Hope this helps!

The Gmpp heads also have hollow stem valves at no extra charge.

Aftermarket castings give you more room to grow and have some significant improvements that you may want. One thing that stand out is your plan to go nitrous and possibly a big shot of it. Deck thickness would be one thing to consider. PTV and valve shrouding can be improved with aftermarket castings as well.

Trust me I was all over the map on what to do on my build and the one thing I could not argue with was once you reached the limits of porting on the stock head you've still got a long way to grow on many aftermarket castings.

That may be true I can always upgrade later on. I'm very curious to see how well the GMPPs perform on a 416.

The LS3 heads don't have as much meat as aftermarket heads, but you can use the extra cash for other things. BTW the Frankenstein stage 1 heads flow 390 cfm @ .750 with 266 cc runner and cost less than any of the aftermarket stuff. You can purchase hollow stem valves for 200 bucks and get the best components with the left over cash. All I have to say is see 1Sick engine as he's my ls3 reference. I have the same 408 with FRH stage1 ls3 and solid roller. Ask Sick what I told him about the LS3 heads and ask him is it worth the extra money. Btw a set of custom ported TFS 255's will set any one back near $4000 or over. Now ask me is 1200 bucks worth 25 hp @ most. For what your asking just use a good custom ported 823 casting.
