L92/LS3 Valve spring question
Last year I built my 2005 C6 Corvette engine. It is a LS2 bottom end, LS9 cam, LS7 lifters, GMPP - CNC L92 heads - 88958698, and a new ls2 oil pump/timing chain.
I swapped the intake valves in the L92 heads to the lighter Corvette LS3 intake valves.
With Kooks long tube headers, and LS3 corvette intake manifold, 60 lb / hr injectors and a tune it made 450 RWHP on a dynojet.
I have an Edelbrock E-Force blower with the 3 or 3.25" pulley on it for the 599 HP kit - and before I throw some boost at it I want to see if I need to upgrade my springs.
I thought the heads had LS3 valve springs in it - but looking at the specs for those heads - it looks like it has the L92/L76 springs on it.
Head 88958698 is assembled with the following components:
12590771 Intake Valves
10166344 Valve Spring Retainers
12582719 Exhaust Valves
12482063 Intake Valve Stem Seals
12589774 Valve Springs
12482062 Exhaust Valve Stem Seals
10166345 Valve Locks
Should I go with a set of LS3 valve springs - or comp cams 26918 kit?
Do the Comp springs require machine work - or are they a bolt on?
Thanks!
The only beehive springs I can recommend for the LS9 cam at this point are the PSI ML1511.
The LS9 cam has the same peak opening ramp speed of a Comp XE-R lobe, so it needs really good springs. Everyone forgets the cam was designed using 70 gram titanium intake valves and about the same weight hollow stem exhaust valves.
