Default Help choosing the right engine?

Hi all.

I am new to this forum, and i really hope that some of you lS genius can advise me, when choosing the rigtig engine.

my budget for building a motor is in-between LS1 and LS2 use engine prices.

The engine will be build for my chevy project. im am a little confused about which of these two engines i should choose. what i want is a 500+ hp engine.
what would you guys choose in relation to reach that number of hp? and which parts should i invest in? Cam? lifters? valve? headers? heads? intake? etc?

i prefer having a aluminium block and not a CI.

hope it make sense and that some of you can and will help me.

Thanks in advance.
Mathias

LS2 for sure. Larger bore and more cubic inches than the LS1 are definite advantages. The LS2 is just going to cost more.

6.0 all day! You can do a LQ4 or LQ9 even cheaper. What's your budget?

okay i might be the ls2 then, even if it is a little bit more expensive. but i saw that a used holden commodore can be bought a pretty good amount.
Since the LS2 have a larger bore, less upgrade parts are needed to reach the 500 hp mark - right? or am i wrong on that?

is there ant thing that i shall be aware of when buying a LS2? i mean some of the engines have run less than 50k and some have run more than 100k which is also cheaper, Pistons? cam? etc?

Thanks for fast reply

It will be easier to hit 500 hp with the LS2 and have better drivability and efficiency. Both the LS1 and LS2 can achieve that number though

Yes they are iron blocks. When my LS1 blew I went with a LQ9. It was really the cheapest viable option I could find

About 90 lbs. In theory you'd need an extra 10-15 hp to make up the difference

Not sure but based on how it runs against others I'd say around 450 rwhp and on nitrous maybe 570 rwhp. I'll be converting over to E85 here really soon so that will all change quite a bit since this car loves timing...the kind of timing that 93 octane can't support lol
