Default Problem with ARP thread chaser...

Doing heads on my G8 and wanted to really make sure the bolt holes were clean, so I bought the ARP thread chasers, ARP 912-0001 and ARP 912-0011.

Amazon.com: ARP 912-0011 11mm x 2.00 Thread Cleaning Tap: Automotive Amazon.com: ARP 912-0011 11mm x 2.00 Thread Cleaning Tap: Automotive

Amazon.com: ARP 912-0001 Thread Cleaning Chaser, M8 x 1.25": Automotive Amazon.com: ARP 912-0001 Thread Cleaning Chaser, M8 x 1.25": Automotive

ARP 912-0011 (the big one) worked great. It went in the hole nice and smooth and pulled out a lot of gunk. ARP 912-0001 (for the small holes), however, feels like a straight up tap. It does not go in like the bolt would and adds resistance right from the start, almost like it's too big or something (or it's a tap). I could have sworn I saw it take out a part of the thread in the hole, but I am not 100% sure. Once I saw that though, I promptly stopped doing what I was doing.

Anyone have this issue? Or am I doing something wrong?

I just used these two on a LQ4 block the other day. Used them on a LS2 block as well previously. The M8 tap always feel a little more harsh in the beginning. But you just need to make sure you have it going in straight, and its following the existing threads. Then just continue to run it.

In all fairness they still are "taps" but they don't have as much of a leading "start" to the bottom as normal taps usually do. Afterall their purpose is to just chase the threads, not make new ones

Ok that is some reassurance. I will really be careful when I use the M8 one, thanks.
